Remembrance Day of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine

On August 29, Ukraine commemorates the Remembrance Day of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine. Instead of their children, they held weapons in their hands. Instead of the tenderness of their beloved lips, an icy wind touched their faces. Instead of a warm blanket, there was a dark web of dug trenches. Instead of morning coffee, they had the bitter taste of fierce battles, blood and salty sweat.

Today, our team, along with all Ukrainians, bow our heads with deep sorrow to those who stood up to defend the future of our country. And today, our thoughts are with every family that has said goodbye to their loved ones for the last time.

On this day of mourning, let us remember the great value of lives, especially those who are now fighting for our independence.

How Was the Remembrance Day of the Fallen Defenders of Ukraine Established?

This date was set to commemorate the day when the Ukrainian army soldiers were supposed to break out of the encirclement in Ilovaisk. It was 29.08.2014. The columns of our defenders were supposed to pass through the “green corridor”, but were viciously shot, because the Russian leadership shamefully violated all the agreements. As a result, 366 of our soldiers were killed, and about 300 were taken prisoner.

The path of the Green Corridor passed through fields of sunflowers. That is why this flower has become a symbol of this memorable day – a symbol of devotion and memory of those who bravely fought for their country without sparing their lives

The sunflower is a flower that turns to the sun even on cloudy days. So did our heroes, who sought the light. They defended goodness, truth, peace, sincerity, and love. We will not forgive those responsible and will not allow future generations to forget the cost of Ukraine's independence.
