Heroes' Day

Today Ukraine celebrates Heroes' Day, dedicated to honoring the defenders who for centuries have spared no effort to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our Motherland, who showed greatness and heroism in the fight for freedom and protection.

The SmartTender team together with everyone else today honors the memory of the fallen and thanks the sons and daughters of Ukraine who are bravely defending the country's borders today. We are grateful to everyone who has defended our statehood throughout history, showing incredible bravery. The memory of the heroes and heroines who laid down their lives for the sake of independence will fly like a white bird through the centuries as a symbol of the overwhelming thirst for freedom so that future generations will know the price paid for peace.

History of the Origins

The Second Grand Gathering of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists in 1941 decided to honor Heroes' Day every year on 23 May. So the decision was dedicated to the memory of the event that happened on 23 May 1938 in Rotterdam, where Yevhen Konovalets was murdered. It was also noted that it was in May that other "outstanding sons of Ukraine of the 20th century" also died: Mykola Mykhnovskyi and Symon Petliura.

Ukraine's Declaration of Independence helped Heroes' Day to gain greater publicity because until then it had been celebrated clandestinely. And after the aggression of Russia against our state – it is experiencing a new stage of revival.

This day not only gives us an opportunity to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Ukraine, but also highlights the immense importance of the heroes who are now bravely standing up to defend the Motherland. This is a moment to focus on those who face challenges and risks every day, giving their strength and courage for the safety of us all. These heroes who stand on the front line deserve our common support and recognition. Their exploits and sacrifices are meant to remind us that independence and peace are not self-evident. It is the result of tireless work and dedication that we must respect and support. Heroes Day is a symbol of gratitude and recognition for today's defenders, as well as the memory of those who paid the highest price for our freedom.
