On June 22, Ukrainians remember all those who were touched by the war for the independence and sovereignty of our country. First of all, this date is dedicated to the memory of those who heroically fought against Nazism during the Second World War. Then, on June 22, 1941, at 4 a.m., Nazi Germany cynically struck a blow to the major cities of Ukraine and launched an attack on the territories that were then part of the Soviet Union. Thus began the German-Soviet War, which claimed, according to various sources, the lives of 8–10 million Ukrainians.

Unfortunately, this tragedy was not the last one for our country, and already in the present times, like fascists, the Russians attacked Ukraine, bringing with them grief and destruction.

As our people were able to win in the Second World War, there is no doubt that now the victory will be ours. After all, Ukrainians have the truth and the will to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity. The best warriors are fighting for this right now and they need our support a lot! What We Should Remember

Day of mourning and remembrance of the victims of war was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine in 2000:

Researchers are still unable to name the exact number of casualties suffered by Ukraine in the Second World War. According to different reports, the number of human casualties reaches from 8 to 10 million military and civilians. About 700 settlements were partially or destroyed, and more than 10 million people were left homeless or lived in destroyed houses.

Today, more than ever, we realize how severe the consequences of armed aggression can be and how high the price of victory over the occupiers is. Therefore, let us remember all the victims of wars in Ukraine: civilians and military, who gave their lives during the fascist invasion in the last century, and those who fell in our time, courageously defending the ideals of our ancestors. Let us honor their feat on June 22, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. with a moment of silence.
